Many, many thanks for your gallant response to the Philippines expedition! Together, we have viewed almost 1,000 aerial images within just 24 hours! If that’s not impressive enough, we’ve identified over 2,000 healthy coconut trees in these images about almost 1,500 unhealthy/uprooted trees. That is a lot of tracing! And we’ve even made it on the news again:
We’ll be sharing all these results with you and our humanitarian partners in the Philippines soon.
The Philippines is now facing another Category 5 Typhoon, so we need to prioritize our efforts on the current disaster. The United Nations has formally requested the deployment of MicroMappers for this new Typhoon so we will be launching MicroMappers very soon. This new mission will focus on identifying relevant tweets and pictures posted on Twitter. We did this last year in response to Typhoon Haiyan, which you can learn more about here to familiarize yourself with the platform.
Thanks again, MicroMappers, your time, efforts and skills are going directly to supporting relief operations in the Philippines. You truly are the Digital Jedis of humanitarian response!
With deep gratitude,
Your MicroMappers Team
